Kottayam

Kottayam is one of the few places in Kerala which possesses both natural beauty and a rich cultural history. Nature has been especially bountiful towards Kottayam- lush paddy fields, vast lakes and high hills with rubber plantations all stand side-by-side here.  The Vembanad Lake, which also acts as the venue of the boat races, is the main artery of Kottayam. Kumarakom, often described as the number one tourist destination of Kerala, is in Kottayam district.

This highly literate state is also the rubber capital of Kerala. Kottayam has gradually emerged as a major literary and cultural centre.  It is also home to some very beautiful temples and churches.
