Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram; the very name conjures up images of age-old palaces and majestic temples. The city can be called the political, academic, cultural, artistic, film as well as IT capital of Kerala. A tourist’s paradise; beaches, museums and art galleries all can be found in plenty here.
Thiruvananthapuram is unique in the sense that tradition and modernity reside side-by-side here; the same city which houses heritage buildings is also the IT hub of Kerala. Being the state capital, the State Assembly and other administrative buildings of Kerala are also situated in this city. This historic city is also home to some of the oldest royal families of Kerala some of who still reside in the age-old ‘tharavad’ (family houses). The name ‘Thiruvananthapuram’ is derived from the words Thiru-Anantha-Puram; the city of Lord Anantha, the serpent on whom Lord Vishnu reclines.
