Palakkad

Lying at the foot of the Western Ghats, Palakkad is the main gateway of Kerala to the rest of India. The Palakkad gap on the Western Ghats is full 32 km wide and is the only break in the Western Ghats. The name Palakkad is derived from the words- Pala-a type of sweet smelling flower and Kaadu- forest. Also known as the granary of India, Palakkad has a rich historical background as well as diverse flora and fauna in the hilly areas. Palakkad is also known for its unique traditions and culture some of which display influences of Tamil culture.  Though Palakkad is small as a town, it is rapidly gaining prominence as a tourism destination, as a land of rivers, dams and temples.
